Carol Johnston, Church Choir
Carol Johnston brings a wealth of life experience and musical enthusiasm to the Saint James Episcopal Church choir. Born and raised in Calumet City, Illinois, Carol has called Charleston home for 35 years. She joined the choir when it started in 2023, shortly after the church reopened.
Carol's musical journey began with accordion lessons as a child, where she learned to read music and performed as both a soloist and orchestra member. Her choral experience includes three years singing in a Roman Catholic church choir.
At Saint James, Carol contributes her alto voice to the ensemble. She enjoys the opportunity to actively participate in the service and appreciates singing alongside experienced vocalists, including College of Charleston voice majors.
Carol prefers upbeat, happy songs in the choir's repertoire. Outside of choir, she keeps busy with her family - husband Steve of 14 years, four children, and five grandchildren. When not singing, you might find Carol out boating or staying fit at the gym. Her home is complete with a dog and two cats as part of the family.
