Emmalyn Gilbreth, Church Choir

Emmalyn Gilbreth, a Blythewood native, brings her rich musical background to the Saint James Episcopal Church choir. A College of Charleston Honors College student, Emmalyn has been part of the Saint James choir for two years.

Her musical journey spans over a decade, including 10 years of private voice lessons, 2 years of professional opera training, and 8 years of piano instruction. At college, Emmalyn is pursuing a double major in Opera and English with a minor in Philosophy.

Emmalyn particularly enjoys hymns, especially those with roots in African American spirituals and folk traditions. Her favorite is Hymn #529, appreciating its movement and character. She loves singing with the congregation, feeling it creates a unified worship experience.

Outside of choir, Emmalyn stays busy as a college tour guide and president of the Library Student Ambassadors. In her downtime, she enjoys reading and watching movies. Though she misses her two dogs and cat back in Blythewood, Emmalyn has found a second home in the Saint James community, valuing the weekly sermons and fellowship.
