Jerry White, Church Choir and Vestry Member

Jerry White III brings youthful energy and musical passion to Saint James Episcopal Church as both a tenor in the church choir and a vestry member. Originally from Ridgeley, West Virginia, Jerry is a proud Appalachian whose family relocated to Little River, South Carolina about three years ago. He discovered Saint James through a student organization at MUSC, initially drawn by the church's need for musicians, but after experiencing just one service, he knew he had found his spiritual home.

Currently a first-year pharmacy student at MUSC, Jerry holds a Master of Science in Medical Sciences from the same institution and earned his undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Music. His academic pursuits reflect his dual passion for science and the arts, bringing a unique perspective to church leadership as a friendly, young face on the vestry.

Jerry's musical journey began early. He's been playing the French horn since age 15 and received private lessons for three years. More recently, he's expanded his musical horizons with three years of private vocal lessons, discovering and developing his voice as a tenor. His love for music extends far beyond his primary instruments; Jerry also knows how to play steel drums and enjoys learning new instruments, making him a versatile addition to the church's musical family.

What Jerry treasures most about Saint James is "how much of a family we are." He describes each Sunday as filled with fellowship and sharing news with fellow church members, saying, "I always feel like I'm talking to my loved ones." His favorite musical moments come during the anthem offerings, where the choir gets to "showcase our blending and unity as a choir." His beloved hymn, "It Is Well With My Soul" by Philip Bliss, reflects his spiritual philosophy captured in the verse: "Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, 'It Is Well With My Soul.'"

As a vestry member since January 2024, Jerry hopes to continue building the church family while specifically helping the music and worship ministry grow. He's passionate about expanding the congregation while maintaining the strong familial bonds that make Saint James special. He also envisions strengthening community service through James Island Outreach and exploring opportunities through his school connections.

Beyond church and studies, Jerry enjoys a diverse range of interests including baking, spending time with friends, pinball, and gardening. He's fascinated by photography, old steam ships and steam engines, and vinyl records. His family includes his parents and step-sister in Little River, plus another step-sister and nephew back in West Virginia.

Jerry embodies the next generation of church leadership - bringing fresh ideas, musical talent, and an infectious enthusiasm for both worship services and community service to Saint James Episcopal Church.
