LentFlix - Movies, Meaning, and Community This Lenten Season

Saint James Episcopal Church on James Island is excited to invite you to LentFlix, our popular Wednesday evening program that combines good food, thought - provoking films, and spiritual conversation during Lent!

LentFlix - A Saint James Episcopal Church Event

If you've never experienced LentFlix before, you're in for a treat! Father Taylor created LentFlix as a way to gather for dinner, watch a carefully selected film together, and then break into small discussion groups to explore the spiritual themes and connections we discovered.

"We come together as a community, build relationships, and reflect on our Lenten journey," says Georgie Skover. That's really what LentFlix is all about – creating space for meaningful connection during this important liturgical season.

This year's LentFlix will take place on Wednesday evenings starting March 12th in the Saint James Center. We start at 5:30 PM with dinner, then a movie and then small group discussion.

Episcopal Church Events on James Island - Open To Everyone

Whether you're a longtime member of our church family or you've never set foot in an Episcopal church before, you'll find a warm welcome at LentFlix. This event is completely open to the public, and we're particularly excited that our friends from St. Stephens will be joining us this year.

There's no cost to attend, and no advance registration is required – you can simply show!

Charleston Church Activities - What to Expect at LentFlix

We begin at 5:30 PM with dinner - a wonderful way to break bread together and establish connections before diving into the evening's film.

We start the movie at 6:30 PM. Father Taylor picks films that get us thinking - sometimes they're directly about faith, other times they're regular movies with spiritual messages hidden in them.

After we watch, we'll split into small groups to talk about what we saw. Father Taylor gives us some questions to get the conversation going, and it's amazing how often these discussions connect to what we're thinking about during Lent.

Spiritual Growth at Saint James Episcopal Church: Why LentFlix Matters

Lent is traditionally a time of reflection, preparation, and spiritual growth in the Episcopal tradition. But in our busy modern lives, it can be challenging to maintain that focus throughout the season. LentFlix offers a weekly anchor point – a dedicated time to pause and connect with your church community.

We hope attendees take away a weekly remembrance of the practice of Lent and find opportunities to explore their own spiritual practices and experiences. Film is a powerful medium that often helps us see familiar truths from fresh perspectives, making LentFlix a unique addition to your Lenten journey.

Join Us for Our Third Year

This marks the third year Saint James Episcopal Church has hosted LentFlix, and we're excited to continue building on its success. The program has become a meaningful part of our church calendar, offering both spiritual formation and community building during the Lenten season.

Getting involved couldn't be easier – just show up on any Wednesday evening during the program. Bringing friends or family members is absolutely encouraged, and no RSVP is necessary. If you'd like to contribute beyond that, consider bringing a salad to share or volunteering to help lead a discussion group.
